Red and Blue Bowls

I did this painting for an oil painting class, I taught on Tuesday. In the class we were talking about direction of light and shadows, and how to make a subject look like it is "in the light". It is a 3 hour long class once a week at the Columbia Center for the Arts.

Stir Things Up - sold

Demitasse

My main interest in painting subjects is the challenge of capturing how light falls on objects. And this demitasse cup is white, so it is reflecting all of the colors around it.

Shiny Ladle

Something shiny to paint. Did I mention that I met the painter, Henry Stinson at our local art gallery, he has some very fun and exciting paintings on display there. Google him, he has quite a resume. He studied with Ron Lukas, who was a student of Sergei Bongart. I wish I had studied with Sergei Bongart. Anyway, I was inspired to paint something colorful and shiny. More to come.

Live Model, Portrait Sessions

We are lucky to have "portrait sessions" at our local art center, Columbia Center for the Arts. These are a couple of my paintings from the past couple of weeks. We have a live model available every Friday from 9am - 12 noon. It's great practice to paint from a live model. The model on the top, wanted us to try painting her green hat, the painting on the bottom, looks like her eyes are closed, she is actually knitting while posing for us.
