#1067 Garden Rosebush

6"x6" | gouache on illustration board

I have painted this rosebush in front of my house several times with oil paints, so I wanted to give it a try with gouache (a matte water media) on archival illustration board. Gouache has a similiar look to oil paintings but has a very matte finish. I use a varnish especially for watermedia when it is dry.

#847 Flowery Challenge

Flowers are just so overwhelmingly beautiful, and yet some of the most difficult things for me to paint. They are bright, yet have shadows, and at the same time, the petals and leaves in the shadow can be translucent, and filled with light. Could anything be more challenging? whew. hence the title...
