Summer Clouds

6"x6" | oil on archival linen panel

Many of my small paintings are studies for ideas for larger paintings. This is a study for a possible large painting focusing on clouds. I was experimenting with different blues, and came across an old tube of Sennelier Ultramarine Blue Deep, so I used it in this one. I have a question - Do you think the different brands of Ultramarine blue are really that different? Or is Ultramarine blue such a ubiquitous blue that any ultramarine will do?

Click this link to view "Summer Clouds" oil painting on Daily Paintworks Website, and to see all of my available paintings.

Pinterest Tip - you can hover over the painting and a "pin" button automatically pops up, so you can easily pin any painting to a pinterest board.

Couldn't tell you, Cathleen. I don't even look at the brands I am using here when I paint and I tend toward mostly watercolors. I just use what I have and work until I find a color I like. If that makes sense! I do so love the lavenders in these skies; perfect for rain clouds!

I think they are different...some seem more transparent than others. However, I'm writing this because I love saying your last line.....over and over......is Ultramarine blue such a ubiquitous blue that any ultramarine will do?
Got great rhythm. I may repost that on my blog just for the fun of it (with credit to you, of course).
