Oh, Cathleen, I love your work. Have you studied with Carol Marine? You know what's funny? I always think my monitor is 'correct', but your background for the cherries is a warm yellow on my screen (looks great, BTW). Oh. Now I have to figure out the color stuff for my monitor. Happy painting.

Also your wall looks great. How did you attach the unframed paintings to the wall?

Hi Kelley,
No I haven't studied with Carol Marine, I really admire her work though. Her work is beautiful and she experiments with new ideas all the time. I studied extensively with Tony Ryder (a portrait painter who taught at the Art Students League in NYC, he now lives and teaches in New Mexico with his own painting school) and other workshops, one with David Leffel (another instructor from the Art Students League), Ken Backhaus (PAPA), and others - all of the instructors I have chosen to study with focus heavily on accurate drawing, and depicting light and dark shapes. I am continually studying on my own, reading books, attending a portrait painting session every Friday at the art center also.

Attaching the paintings to the wall: I used little tiny nails, 2 on the bottom under the painting and 1 on top. I used a laser level to make the grid. It went up really quickly after I got the grid marked out in pencil. You only need marks on 2 sides of the painting. I put the paintings 11cm apart.

Cathleen, I love your small paintings and the way you present them. May I ask where you get your frames with the black border? I always love seeing your latest painting...they are so fresh and colorful!
