I was very inspired by seeing Carol Marine's bowl and pepper paintings. I never thought of painting a bowl from above, so I HAD to try it. I don't know if it worked out for me, but it's interesting. I'm not sure if they look like "bowls from above".
How is this painting different from yesterday's painting? The lighting is natural. I painted it with natural light coming in the window, shining on the plums and creating the shadows naturally. The photo is ok, but I think the colors are more subtle than the photo can capture.This painting is available for purchase. Someone left the comment that I had not written what I was thinking when I painted this one. I was thinking mostly about values - to make objects/forms come forward and go back into space. Atmosphere, the hills far away in the desert are a muted grayed down blueish, and as they come forward they get more color. It's way too cold here to paint outside, so I did this painting from a photo I took during the spring from the Mosier Tunnels Trail. I just felt like I really needed to paint a landscape for a change. And I had just gotten a new brush that is an inch wide, that I was trying out.

My Red Amaryllis finally bloomed.
You wouldn't know it from looking at this painting, but I used more colors than you would think to paint this one. White, cad red, ultramarine blue, orange, yellow, raw sienna, and yellow ochre.

Snowed in. Maybe more snow than I have ever seen at my house. Over 12 inches. Lots of cool things to paint in my house though. Like these inspiring little peppers.
Grapes are a little transparent. What a challenge they are.
