Short Stack - sold

This is a study for what will be a larger "balance stack" 6" x 18" painting. I wanted a pink cup, and I couldn't find one. I looked everywhere. My husband suggested I get a white cup and paint it pink - literally! So that's what I did. He's so smart... why didn't I think of that. So I painted the cup, and then used it in my painting!

Yes, I really balanced the cups, that part is fun too.

Here is my set up for my balancing cups! That is a sculpture stand I put my still life set ups on. It's very strong, adjustable up and down, and it has wheels. There is a light on a stand off to the left, out of the photo.

Just Off the Easel - "Balance Series"

Just off the easel! "Balance Series", will be showing at the Columbia Center for the Arts, "Get Centered Show" Public Reception on Friday June 3 from 6-8pm, 215 Cascade St, Hood River, OR, 541-387-8877, along with lots of other interesting art!

It takes a while to get everything balanced so that it will stay stacked long enough to paint, without falling!

This is a study for another larger 6x18 "Balanced Cups" painting that I will post soon. I am working on different combinations of cup and plate colors, and compositions for the next painting.

Study for Six Cups

I am going to be in a group show called "Get Centered" at the Columbia Center for the Arts, Hood River, OR. The painting below is for that show, that opens June 3. The daily painting that I am selling online was an initial study for the larger 6"x18" painting below.

Part of my inspiration for the larger painting, was a combination of the Queen of Cup Painting, Carol Marine, and Nancy Switzer, who paints very cool "stacks" of things. I love both of their painting styles. This is my response to the Show, "Get Centered" which is open to interpretation - to me it means Balance... literally! I'm going to do more paintings for the show, maybe I can balance more than 6 cups! I just don't need an earthquake right now, please...

Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour - Studio Sale Next Weekend May 14 & 15

Next weekend is the Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour May 14 & 15!

42 regional artists will be opening their studios to the world to come in and see what they are working on, their methods and how they make it happen. I have been very busy getting ready for the Tour.  This is one of the large paintings I am currently working on for the show/tour (two paintings, a sort of diptych, but they aren't attached) of the Hills in Eastern Oregon. Each painting measures 2ft x 2ft. They will be framed separately, but hung side by side. They will be available for purchase from my studio either separately or together. I will post a photo when they are finished and framed! 

I, like the 40 plus artists participating this year, am very excited!  It is a wonderful opportunity to discover all of the amazing talent we have here in, and around The Columbia Gorge, National Scenic Area.

Seashell Pinks - sold
